The Mission

The goal:

Our goal is to advance the medical and biomedical sciences via the organization of symposia, workshops, and training courses. We produce a series of two-to-three-day highly focused events.  Our target audience ranges from 65-200 people and consists of researchers in the field of drug discovery and development, genetics, neuroscience, cardiovascular research, among many others.

The Company:

The Institute for Scientific Exchange, Inc.©; formed in 1997; is a for profit organization devoted to the enhancement of communication among three sectors within science community: regulatory agencies, industrial corporations, and academic institutions.  The vision in creating ISE, Inc. was to develop a company that enhances the exchange of information in the scientific community.  ISE, Inc. has experience in scientific event production, as well as science-related publications.  The company has extensive experience with the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and information technology industries.

The newest addition to the company the ISE Store. The store includes PDF formatted files of slides presented at past ISE conferences (including DDDS-2005, DDI-2005, ETS-2005, CTDD-2005; DDDS-2004, IVAT-2004, etc...), conference binders and ISE Press CD book entitled Pre-clinical and Clinical Evaluation of Drug-Drug Interactions (ISBN: 0971053200) for purchase and download. The CD book is an innovative and novel concept in publishing were the entire contents are in electronically formatted version.  (no hard copy is published).

The annual conferences produced by ISE, Inc. include the following: Early Toxicity Screening in Drug Discovery; International Conference on Drug-Drug Interactions,  Idiosyncratic Drug Toxicity and Drug Discovery & Development Summit.

MANAGEMENT

Nola Mahaney, Vice President of Operations

Nola Mahaney is presently the Vice President of Operations of Institute for Scientific Exchange, Inc., a company founded to “advance science through communication”.  Ms. Mahaney has been with ISE, Inc. full-time for 6 years and free lanced for ISE, Inc. for two years before that.  Previously, Ms. Mahaney was at the Red Roof Inn Motels originally at the Buffalo Airport location in Bowmansville, NY starting as a Front Desk clerk and then in Hanover, MD, USA as the Front Desk Supervisor (1989-1999).  Duties included managing other front desk clerks in customer complaints, scheduling of both front desk and housekeeping departments, inventory, purchasing, computer programming and troubleshooting; and training.  Busboy, Server and Service Bartender at The Buffalo Marriott Niagara in Amherst, NY (1989-1985); duties include back of the house (kitchen) knowledge, keeping in step or ahead of server, inventory, memorization of cocktail recipes, wine list, drink orders from multiple servers, equipment troubleshooting, menu offerings, and generally assist in all hotel bar areas.  Conference administrator (1992-1997) for CATCMB, Washington, DC (Center for Advanced Training in Cell and Molecular Biology at Catholic University). Duties included organization and reproduction of conference materials, food and beverage coordinator, attendee’s management, marketing and customer relations.  Nola Mahaney received an Associates degree in 1988 from Erie Community College (ECC) in Hospitality Management after attending SUNY Fredonia; Fredonia, NY from 1984-1985 taking standard undergraduate courses. Ms. Mahaney consistently worked in the food & beverage business areas while attending school and acquired the position at the Marriott on recommendation from her professors at ECC.  Ms. Mahaney’s schooling and years of experience in the hospitality industry has given her unique knowledge for the industry of meeting planning and conference production.

Annette Chartier-Warren, Conference Producer

Annette Chartier-Warren is a Conference Producer for the Institute for Scientific Exchange, Inc., a company founded to “advance science through communication”.  Annette has been with ISE, Inc. as a free-lance employee since April 2003.  Her duties include the following: 

Developing programs (body or topic), including a list of speakers to invite with Albert P. Li, Ph.D., Chairman of Scientific Programs, of the Institute for Scientific Exchange, Inc.

Coordinating administration duties with Nola Mahaney, Vice President of Operations for the Institute for Scientific Exchange, Inc. including speaker management, registration, speaker and attendee liaison and public relations. 

Being present at all conference events as a representative of ISE, Inc. to help facilitate public relations and client satisfaction before, during and after conference events.

Completion of program venue or the theme, including a list of confirmed speakers relative to the program and their contact information forwarded to Ms. Mahaney.  Troubleshooting and problem solving before, during and after conferences.

Completion of event.  This includes duties pertaining to closing the conference with event liaison, Ms. Mahaney.

Annette has also compiled, edited and published a CD book of articles written by scientists attending ISE Conferences titled, “Preclinical and Clinical Evaluations of Drug-Drug Interactions: Advances in Drug Therapy Volume 1.”  Additionally, Annette is a free-lance writer and journalist who has worked for the St. Louis Suburban Journals for the past 20 years.  She is a well-known and respected feature writer throughout the West County St. Louis Community and has written over 1000 news and feature articles on topics ranging from human interest to community events to city politics to breaking local news.  As a fiction writer, Annette is also the author of numerous historical and contemporary romance novels and is presently working for Harlequin Enterprises, Limited. Annette majored in English and minored in Journalism at the University of New Mexico.
