Biography: Albert P. Li, Ph. D.,
MBA
Dr.
Li is an internationally renowned expert in drug metabolism and
toxicology. The focus of his activities
for the past 2 decades is on the development and validation of human-based in vitro experimental systems for the
evaluation of human drug properties. Dr. Lis current research emphasis is the
application of human-based in vitro
experimental systems in drug discovery and development. His pioneering research on hepatocyte
isolation, culturing and cryopreservation allows human and animal hepatocytes
to be used routinely as a research tool.
Dr. Li and his colleagues have developed numerous human cell-based
experimental systems for the evaluation of critical drug properties such as
bioavailability, metabolic stability, toxicity and drug-drug interaction
potential. Earlier in his career, Dr. Li was instrumental in the development of
the mammalian genetic toxicology assay, CHO/HGPRT gene mutation assay, for
industrial applications. The assay is
now one of the routine assays for the evaluation of the genotoxic potential of
industrial chemicals, agricultural chemicals, and pharmaceuticals
Dr.
Li is presently Founder, President and Chief Executive Officer of Advanced
Pharmaceutical Sciences, Inc., a company recently founded by Dr. Li to develop
novel technologies and approaches to accurate predict human drug
properties. Previously, Dr. Li was
President and CEO of Phase 1 Molecular Toxicology, Inc. in Santa Fe, New
Mexico, U. S. A. (2002-2003), Chief Scientific Officer of In Vitro
Technologies, Inc., Baltimore, Maryland, U. S. A. (1995-2002); Research
Professor and Director of the Surgical Research Institute, Department of
Surgery, St. Louis University Medical School (1993-1995); Senior Fellow and
Director, Liver Biology Department, Monsanto Company (1982 1993); Group
Leader, Cellular and Genetic Toxicology, Lovelace Inhalation Toxicology
Research Institute (1979 1982); Assistant Professor and Research Scientist,
Cancer Research and Treatment Center and Department of Radiology, University of
New Mexico (1976 1979). Dr. Li
obtained his B. Sc. (1972, Chemistry) from the
Dr. Li is an active member
of the scientific community. He edited 5 books and published over 100
peer-reviewed papers. He serves as
Editor, Hepatocyte Reports for the journal Chemico-Biological Interactions and
is on the editorial board of the journal Cell Biology and Toxicology.
